Our fertilizer is 10-10-10-4-2 + trace + lime, which means:

NITROGEN: Root growth & stability (growth)

Helps new grass get started

The Agricultural Extension Service from Virginia Tech has specially formulated all of Stone and Mulch Center’s fertilizers for Stafford County soils.

In addition to the basic nutrients found in the standard fertilizer, Virginia Tech’s Agricultural Extension Service has included sulfur, iron, palletized lime, & six different trace elements.

SPRING

Starting in the spring (March 1st - May 1st), the first application should be 16-4-8-3-2+trace+lime.

This is also the time to apply lime, crabgrass preventer & weed killers.

Your next application will follow six (6) weeks later. This application will be 10-10-10-4-2+trace+lime.

SUMMER

Water! Water! Water!

Apply an application of weed killer in late August.

FALL

These months are when we will focus on root development. It's the ideal time to apply lime & to sow grass seed. This is the key to making strong turf that will survive the hot summer ahead.

In September, apply 10-10-10-4-2+trace+lime.

Four (4) to six (6) weeks later, apply the 2nd application of 9-15-10-3-2+trace+lime.

Four (4) to six (6) weeks later, apply your last application of 9-15-10-3-2+trace+lime.

(The last application is usually in late November/December.)

WHAT MAKES OUR GRASS SEED SPECIAL?

There are 3 types & 3 Different heights, so whether you have sun or shade, the grass will grow! It has a very quick germination period and 1 ½ high in about 2-3 weeks. Sun & shade grass seed is specific for Stafford soil. Virginia tech took soil samples & generated a formula that works best for our soil.
